Prairie Lakes Brunch

        By Brian Gilomen

A while back, the FVFC used to make it a point to fly to the Prairie Lakes Resort Golf Club as a group for a pre-arranged brunch.  Sure, we all go to P.L. a lot these days on the spur of the moment, but the Golf Club recently asked why we don't make the grand entrance that we used to.  "That's easy to fix," we said.  So, plans were laid for a Return To Prairie Lakes on October 11.

That Saturday, Bill Mills fired up his Kitfox and headed out early to make sure that the doors were open, the Biscuits and Gravy were hot, and our Club Banner was on display.  Dragging my wife Regina along (a first, her flying with me in my Challenger), the two of us were airborne shortly after Kevin, Vance, Mick and Jude took off.  Rickey straggled along later, as usual.

Gordy Gillen counted 27 planes.  Here are a few:

The food was plentiful, and reasonably priced at $8.50 per person, including gratuity.  The staff of Prairie Lakes was excited about our being there, and welcomed us back in the future.  Bill and Larry Gehrig were the Masters of Ceremonies.  They highlighted our successful soloists of 2003, and toasted the FVFC.

Regina and I then streaked back to Clow so as to avoid the building bumps.  Others lingered for a while, or made a day of flying.  Kevin and Bill, for example, took a detour to Brian Becraft's farm. They reported that it was a little windy on the way there, but excellent on the way back; one of those Indian Summer days with late afternoon sun and light winds.  A good time was indeed had by all!
