A Wright Good Time
By Brian Gilomen
Perhaps as many at 1500 or more showed up for the celebration/fund raiser honoring the Wright Redux replica Wright Flier project. FVFC volunteered to handle breakfast serving chores. Many of us were on site by 6:45. Aprons, hats and gloves were quickly donned and eggs, sausages, pancakes and biscuits were slung onto the plates of the eagerly waiting throng. As requested by the organizers, Me, Rickey, Vance and Bill pulled our planes out of our hangars and taxied them to the tie down area so that people could gawk at them.
We all took turns serving and then taking breaks. When we took a break several of us went out by our planes and stood there to answer questions. One time when I was by the plane it started to rain. So, I jumped in and closed the door! The guys who were handling the ground plane traffic all scurried under my wings to keep dry.
We quit serving at around 1:00, and then cleaned up a bit. At around 2:00 we taxied our planes back to our end of the field, and retired to one of the hangars to shoot the breeze, smoke cigars, drink beer and generally hang.
