Cushing Picnic a Smash Success!

It seems like the Cushing
picnic was a big success this year. We moved out of Larry's hanger and onto the
grass under a tent similar to our new FVFC club tent, and the weather was
beautiful. Many people from the club were there with their wives. It was nice
to meet you all again! I manned the grill and though it was slow going at
first, I fired that baby up to high and the burgers and brats started flowing
pretty smoothly. Thank God for that, because at one point I looked behind me
and all of the sudden there was an ominous line of teeth-gnashing hungries. If
I gave someone a burger or a brat out of turn I apologize! My wife Patti was
helping and panicked when we ran out of cheese for the burgers. I had to assure
her that it was not a violent group -- normally. Clark, a newcomer to the
Cushing community, brought some steak from a previous weeks picnic and that got
cooked when we ran out of other goodies. People gobbled it up like beef jerky.
Maybe we need more food next year!
Although we didn't do a safety
check on our planes this year, we had a bunch of fun talking with everyone and
doing a little flying. Thanks to Tom Houghton for being the picnic chairman, a
thankless job, although I did see him in the food line at least three times.
