Fall Flying

(Cribbed from an email received from Mick Pahnke)

(Editor's Note:  The second in a series of "saved up submissions from when it wasn't quite so cold outside.")

Jude and I decided that we hadn't made it up to Lake Geneva all year and Saturday might be the last chance for a while.  It was about an hour flight both ways and pretty smooth with visibility better than ten out and less on the way back, especially when we got down around Du Page.  It definitely got dark and hazy for the last 20 miles or so and although the colors were still good along the way, we didn't take any pictures from the air.

Once on the ground we walked to the main lodge at the old Playboy Club - now Grand Geneva - and had the concierge call us a cab.  It was in the mid 50s with lots of people and fall colors to look at.  A leisurely lunch, a cappuccino and a walk through town and it was time for the taxi back to our plane.  Right after we left Lake Geneva, I switched over to 122.875 and picked up Kevin and Rickey talking but it wasn't until I got up to 3000' that they could pick me up.  It is always nice to hear a familiar voice on the radio.  They were south by the Joliet VOR heading north and us heading south.  So closing at 120 mph their faint transmissions soon came thru loud and clear.  I've enclosed some pictures from the trip.  Sorry there were not more of us to enjoy the day.
