A Fox Valley Flying Club Christmas
By Kevin Bertorelli

This year’s club Christmas party at Walter Payton’s was another success. 64 people showed up to celebrate our most important gathering. I brought my computer and Paul brought his projector screen setup to show pictures of the 2003 flying season. Later, Rickey showed up with his Big Bodacious BOSE Boom Box to provide a sound stage for Christmas music, as well as a PA for announcements and commendations.
Bill was our Christmas host, and he did an outstanding job directing all of the party activities. Of course, before getting too festive there was the serious business of electing our 2004 Club officials. That didn’t take long because the incumbents won by a landslide.
After a scrumptious dinner, Bill handed out a clever matching game that he and several others had put together. Dozens of names were listed, along with dozens of catchy and clever descriptions. The object of the game was to match each name with one of the descriptions. I believe mine was “Circuit City’s worst nightmare.” The game was a lot of fun and it was surprising how well people did. I forgot who won but that person damn near guessed correctly on each name. The top winners received great prizes that had been donated by other FVFC members.
Afterwards, Bill took some time to thank everyone who helped with the party and then opened up the floor for people to speak their piece. John O’Neil spoke emotionally about how we often put off saying things that we feel we can say at another time. He expressed his heartfelt thanks to everyone for the support and help he’s received over the years. Deea, Larry Gehrig’s wife, went around and took excellent pictures, as did Roger Kellogg. The 2003 flying season photo CD that I made was handed out at the door as people left.
