Fox Valley Flying Club

DECEMBER, 2006 Newsletter

Thoughts from the Editor

Not that I have that much time to kill these days, but I thought it might be nice to get a last-minute Newsletter issue out before 2006 grinds to an end.  After all, Tom Grimm was kind enough to send me an article this past Halloween about a "challenging" flight to Erie.  That single article wasn't enough to "go to press" with, so I held on to it pending the arrival of some more material.  Then, about three weeks later, Evan Wright coughed up a piece about getting his Sport Pilot CFI rating.  Hoping for even more, I continued to hold out.  My prayers were finally answered during the FVFC Christmas Party on December 9, when Kent Catich handed me a folder containing several printed-out stories.  I then languidly set to work scanning many of those pieces of paper, converting them to a form digestible by Microsoft FrontPage.  Others of the stories that he gave me contained online references that I was able to follow so as to steal the material from the web for your reading pleasure.  Enjoy!

The literary generosity of Tom, Evan and Kent should be a lesson to all of you.  So, please send to me (via email to gilomen@ais.net) any and all stories about flying that you have done, flying that you wanted to do and flying that made you wish you had stayed on the ground, as well as any amusing anecdotes, grumpy gripes, scary stories and wanted/for sale/for trade ads.  If you actually do that, this Newsletter could come out more often than quarterly!
