Grandpa's Farm

        By Brian Gilomen

Yes, they got me out of bed early enough to enjoy standing in a long line for pancakes, eggs, sausage and toast at the annual EAA Chapter 263 fly-in at Grandpa's Farm on Sunday, August 10.  A rarity for me:  I had a passenger.  Mick and I flew from Clow to Cushing and met up with Donny, who had his Brother-in-Law in tow.  I folded Bro-in-Law into my "cozy" back seat and we all headed to the fly-in.

It was a nice day, and -- as is so often the case -- the FVFC made a good showing.  We all ate hearty and then headed out to the flight line to check out the aircraft.  One of the more interesting occurrences was a GA aircraft that pulled out into the taxiway, apparently completely oblivious of a marker light mounted in an oil drum .  He ran his gear right into it (he was lucky to have missed it with his prop!), and then had to sheepishly get out, manhandle his plane away from the obstacle, and inspect the damage.  Sure glad it wasn't me!

Kevin, ever the intrepid photographer, sent us some pictures afterwards.  His comment:

"I did something different this year at Grandpa’s Farm. I didn’t just focus on the club planes, or even our members. I just checked out the scenery and took pictures of whatever looked interesting. I hope you can appreciate my work."

Sure, Kevin took pictures of the assembled aircraft.  But on more than one occasion, the "scenery" that Kevin was focusing on wasn't lost on any of us.  See for yourselves...
