APRIL, 2005 Newsletter

Thoughts from the Editor:

It's Flyin' Time!

Well, for some of us that is.

Some of us, unfortunately, got a late start getting our rides into commission for a Spring Fling.  I, for one, am in the process of replacing my over-TBO motor with a brand-spanking new one purchased from Larry Gehrig of Chicago Quicksilver.  So naturally, jealousy reared its ugly head when I arrived at the field the other day to see Jim Wolak's and Mick Pahnke's hangar doors wide open and them nowhere to be seen.  Not to worry; misery loves company.  Kevin Bertorelli just got his motor back from Jim Leon after an expensive, but excellent, overhaul.  Last I saw it, it was sitting on his workbench.  Vance Lorenzana has his cowling off, and is doing who-knows-what to his Subaru.  Barry Ward has parts all over the place, shorts out landing lights at the drop of a hat, and apparently drinks too much when cutting holes for altimeters in his new instrument panel.

In this issue of the FVFC Newsletter, Evan Wright once again shows that he has nothing better to do than to try to add to his endless list of endorsements and ratings.  Enjoy Evan's narrative of attending ground school for a DC-3.  Bill Mills reports on the 24th Annual Ultralight/Lightplane Safety Seminar held in Springfield.  Barry Ward regales us with the joys of pilotage -- often necessary after a GPS failure in-flight.  Other flotsam and jetsam have been added here and there as padding.

Remember that I rely on each of you send to me (via email to gilomen@ais.net) any and all stories about flying that you have done, flying that you want to do and flying that made you wish you had stayed on the ground, as well as any amusing anecdotes, grumpy gripes, scary stories and wanted/for sale/for trade ads.  The more stuff you send, the more interesting this Newsletter will be!
